Back to Shacks Beach
Today was the first day in a week that the wind's been calm, so I headed out to Shacks Beach again to see if the water was as clear as I hoped. It was. I can't say the underwater photography is improving by leaps and bounds, but it seems like it's getting a small bit better. It's decidedly time for a new camera though. Even with calmer winds today, there's still quite a bit of surface chop and current, and by the time the camera focuses, the subject may or may not be in the picture, or you may have drifted 5 feet away from the piece of coral you want. Anyways... here's a couple of shots that didn't totally suck. The first one, I love because if you look closely, you can see a juvenile damselfish - that's the tiny little black fish with blue dots. These are also called "jewelfish" because of their blue dots, and I'm telling you, there is no way to describe how brilliantly blue those spots are in the sun. They're really spectacular! When they get older, they'll still have the blue dots, but they don't shine like little lights. The trade-off is that their tail turns sunflower yellow. Such pretty little critters!
