Today's hell

...turned out to be not quite as bad as I thought! It's time - we had
to re-register the car. Typically, I would rather be beaten senseless
by a wet wahoo than put up with the beuocracy that is guaranteed to
leave you sweaty, mad, and $7 short, regardless of how much cash you
brought, but this time, it only took about an hour, and we had new
sticker in hand. Mind you, $211 less in our wallet, but still.
Actually, the hardest part of the whole ordeal was getting cash. We
went to the bank and the ATM lanes had at least 10 cars in each. So, I
went inside to use the walk-up. Silly me, to expect the ATM to
actually have MONEY in it... And even sillier to expect the first 3
people ahead of me to tell the rest of us poor schmucks in line that
the well had run dry. Since there were literally about 50-60 people in
line (some even brought their own chairs) to see the TWO open teller
windows, staying in the bank was not an option. We finally found a
functional ATM at another store. Of course, we had to do multiple
transactions (at $1.50 a pop) to get out what we thought would be
enough moolah, but hey. We got it accomplished in the end, an no one
got a black eye.

Cofos pizza - the lifeblood of all Aguadillaians who don't want to cook

Last night was a Cofos night - and I thought it was worthy of a blog
posting. This is some of the best pizza around, and the guy makes it
all from scratch (including the dough) in this truck. This is where
you come to catch up with anyone you haven't seen in a couple of
weeks. Sometimes it reminds me of being a teenager at Papalenos again.

We really have found that some of the best food around is in some of
these kioskos, and you can't deny the novelty of mobile restaurants.

Stop! Fish Crossing!

One more kick forward, and I would have been flattened by the stampede!

Morning Dive

We've been watching the surf report all week in anticipation of today - it was supposed to be only 1-2 foot swells which means heaven if you have a couple of full tanks of air. So, Steve took the option this morning, and we went to the Blue Hole for a little diving. Magic Seaweed's surf report didn't let us down; it was beautiful water! I love the picture of Steve, as creature from the deep. Even though the exposure's not the best in the world, I also like the one of the sun coming in through the caverns. The underwater tunnels and caverns are really pretty amazing down there! We also found a 4ft moray eel, and he poked his head out about halfway to give us a good look. Alas, my stupid camera was not cooperative, so no picture of his green sneer.

It was also pretty amazing to have the whole beach essentially to ourselves. The only people we ran into, in fact, were 3 sets of friends, all up to the same mischief we were. I LOVE this place!

The two cave pictures I'd been waiting for...

I knew these were floating around somewhere; they were on Johanna's camera. I was trying to crawl out this hole, and Steve kept trying to get me to stay in until he could take my picture. Ordinarily, I'm game, but this time, I was in a very small crawl-space with a very large spider. Seriously, that guy was the size of my whole hand, and I had to turn my back on him. You wouldn't believe how crawly the backs of my legs were.

It's always the little people who get dropped down in the holes to see what's at the bottom...

Waiting for laundry to be done

Floors cleaned, dishes done, air conditioners purified, and now a good
book in a great spot to wait out the load of laundry. Life's not bad...

Oceanside Empanadilla with a view

We stopped by this little lookout and kiosko on the way home. I love the view! If you look in the distance, you can see the Guajataca tunnel that Mom and I walked through

Sunday in the Caves

The back exit/entrance of the cave. I LOVE this first picture - the rock, all the tree roots, and the lighting is better than I've managed in the past! I was trying to make Steve wait until my camera was ready so I could get him coming out of the hole; in that amount of time, he pulled out the shades. He's just too cool for me ;-)

Sunday in the Caves

Climbing out the back side of the second cave. I absolutely love the look on Steve's face after butt-boosting Johanna up the rock!

Sunday in the caves

This is the second, smaller cave. I'm trying not to slide down into the opening; the second picture is when I realized that the big stink was coming from a big dead crab beside me.

The last picture is the mouth of this cave, taken from inside. I've been trying to get this shot to work for a long time - this is the best so far

Sunday in the Caves

I love how demonic Steve looks in the one where he swallowed his flashlight!

And, the one of Johanna in the mouth of the cave's pretty cool because you can really tell how steep it is

Sunday in the caves

I can't remember what Johanna and I were looking at in the last picture, but it cracks me up! We did find a huge pile of cockroaches, this may have been both of us checking to make sure none of them followed us. *shiver*

Sunday's trek through Cueva Ventana

Apparently, I was getting sleepy by this point in time. Figures; this would have been a great picture otherwise!
