Tinted back door glass

> This one gets the Morning sun, and typically puts a beam of fire directly on my face while I'm working out in the mornings. This morning, much cooler. Yay!

Laser beam deflectors

So, yesterday's project was tinting the windows and blocking the insane zorpa ray death beam that is the morning and evening sun. I'm kinda happy with the results - they seem to be pretty effective, but it's best if you don't look too close at the edges... Cutting that stuff was a booger

Let there be light!!

So, we knew when we bought the house that the pool light didn't work. It costs about a million dollars to have someone come out and diagnose the problem... Or, it costs $15 bucks when your husband is Mr. Renaissance and can work out electrical problems on his own. A little talking around by both of us to find out how the sucker is mounted, a new switch, deduced by Mr Slaughter, and we have nighttime swimming illumination!

Rather pleased with ourselves

So, here are the new bamboo shades, after a Sunday spent getting them ready for installation. Since each shade was originally $45, this should be about $150 worth of sunblock. Given that I found them for 4.99, had a 20% off coupon, and cut one blind in half to cover the two side windows, we're now done and only $8 into the project. Granted, it's one whole Sunday of out lives we'll never get back, since we had to cut all of these to fit using a Dremel in the back yard. And, we'll probably have to pay off our neighbors, since we did the cutting in our swimsuits (it was damn hot) and wearing dive masks (I couldn't find the damn safety goggles). We did, however, laugh a lot and find out that eyeballs really do sweat. Interesting.

No Golden Ticket

Today, I met Karla and her daughter Paola at one of the well- known chocolate factories in Vegas. From the hype in the tourist info, it's a must-see. And, while we were there, tour busses came and deposited their hoardes. However, we three were a little puzzled as to what the big deal was all about. I was expecting a golden ticket, a chocolate river, and a tour by an Oompa Loompa. However, all that awaited us was a long hallway with a window that looked down on a lot of conveyor belts (not being used at the time) and some workers milling around. Willy wonka was nowhere to be seen. I was, however, smitten with the cactus gardens on the grounds. Would have taken a few more pics, but 112 degrees put it out of Paola's "fun zone". I did snap this just outside the cafe though. I love the patterns!

Bed bath and beyond boondoggle

So, I went to BB&B this morning to get some hangers and I found these. Not what we want, but until we can afford shutters or blinds, I think we just covered 4 more windows in the great room for 20 bucks. Yay!! I love unexpected sales....
