More pictures from Cabo Rojo

I fell in love with this bike and old guy had parked in the shade! It had a tank full of gas on board, but he only pedaled it when it was time for him to leave. This is where Mom sat in the shade, with pretty rosy cheeks, watching the small waves roll in.

Cabo Rojo

Yesterday, we went to Cabo Rojo (which means "red heads" in Spanish... for the red rock cliffs) There's lots to do there; there are salt flats to tour, a dry forest (full of cactus)a BEAUTIFUL lighthouse on some gorgeous cliffs, and a really, really pretty beach. The hike up to the lighthouse is short, but pretty rough, so I left mom sitting in the shade to watch the beach while I went up to the lighthouse to see if one of the workers could give us a jeep ride up. Unfortunately, on that particular day, their normal staff of 3 was down to just 1, so he couldn't leave the lighthouse and ferry us up. He then offered to take me all the way up to the very tip top of the lighthouse, through 2 locked doors, so I could stand in the glass encasing with the light rotating inches from me. Loved that! I felt like I was in Pete's Dragon.

Surfer Girl

Aunt Jean, this one is for you! This is day one, getting ready to go set foot in the water for the first time!

The trip begins!

Sitting in the Cincinnati airport, waiting to go to Newark. Of course, we sat right across from Berea people; Warren May and his wife were on their way out to Arizona to visit one of their girls!

Did I mention

That we've been in the same clothes for more than 3 days? Because, of
course, our luggage is in aguadilla. We do, however, have a lovely tea
set and wooden board in our carry-on. Tomorrow's post may show us
wearing them... creatively. The other option is a $2000 clean outfit
from Brooks brothers here in the airport. I'm not sure which is worse
looking.

Games

Oh yeah, we've played 107 hands of scopa. 37 of cribbage, an that's
the start of rummy laying out before us. Anyone got any new card
games, send em this way. We've got a poker deck and an Italian deck....

We're a-ok

Ok. Just some background. We were supposed to be home on Wednesday.
It's Sunday. We're in Newark - and this is Steve, confirming our
status of okey-dokey. We've been bumped off of 4 flights today (and
our day started at 0500) and our next possibility (5 hours from now is
oversold by 16, and we're 9th on the standby list)(to help with the
math, that 25 people who have to
Miss their flight before they start thinking about us) (want another
parenthetical?!) so. Our current thought is to go to Cleveland
tonight. To go to Houston tomorrow. To get to San Juan tomorrow night.
To rent a car and drive 3 hours home. To have steve get up at 0600 for
work. But that's just a thought, because I'm not sure that's going to
work either. There are a lot of full flights.

Perspectives

Twelve inches in my driveway can really be a pain in the butt. Twelve
inches of fresh powder on te ski slopes can be pure, unabashed joy!
(now, if we could just figure out how to get back home...)

Perfect weather at perfect north

Ok - I gotta admit, the skiing tonight at perfect north was nothing to
sneeze at. What great powder! Steve, Tom and I skiied for 4 straight
hours and just had a ball! You don't feel so cold when you're playing
that hard.

The a-ha moment

Tom brought his first load of stuff over today, and while we were
taking a break, it dawned on all of us that it would be a perfect
night to go skiing...

Trying to start the Mazda yesterday

It's easier to get to the battery leads when the hood doesn't weigh
100 lbs with snow!

Our front steps

AFTER steve already shoveled them yesterday

Sunday brunch

Steve's omlette may be the prettiest thing to ever come out of our
kitchen!

Are you kidding me?!

What is this thing?! Godzilla bug? It's hard to see in this picture,
but it's wings are bright orange, it's tail is mallard green, and it
has a stinger that, even in death, is a quarter of an inch long. Found
it dead in Cory's yard while I was taking the dogs out - very nearly
dropped both leashes and ran myself when I saw it. I REALLY hope it
doesn't have friends.
