Weekend in Rincon with the Thistles
This Saturday, we all got up early and headed to Rincon for a little diving. Steve and I have been to Rincon several times, but the water's always been too rough to dive or snorkel. This weekend, it was pretty perfect to take in all the pretty reef that we've heard so much about. So, we loaded up the cars and hauled all of our stuff down to Steps Beach and Tres Palmas Beach. The stories were right; the reef here is pretty unbelievable! It's one of the biggest communities of elk head coral in the Caribbean, and it really was EVERYWHERE. There were also an amazing number of fish - the whole place was just so alive. Here are some pictures of the beach and setting up. Incidentally, you park essentially in this cow field to go to the beach. Our car was 5 paces from this cow. It's kind of peculiar to smell cow manure while at the beach!
The second picture is of Leslie in the rainbow sarong, with the island Desecheo in the far distance, and the steps, which have given the beach its name in between.
Third picture is the contents of a pretty tidal pool.
Fourth is a panorama of the beach, with Leslie and Justin playing in the tidal pools.
